Meg Ryan

Meg Ryan is a blonde-haired blue-eyed woman with an exuberant personality. She was born Margaret Mary Emily Hyra to Susan (Duggan) she was who was an English teacher, and once an actor. Harry Hyra was a math teacher. Ruthenian as well as Polish, Irish, German and German descendents. "Hyra" is her maternal grandmother's maiden name, comes from Ruthenian. Meg graduated in June 1979 from Bethel high school in Bethel. She relocated to New York and majored as a journalist at New York University. Meg Ryan is her name change, started acting to make extra money while she completed her education. Her first screen appearance came in 1981, making a brief appearance as Candice Bergen’s daughter in George Cukor's last film Rich and Famous (1981). She was cast in the role as Betsy in the television soap as the World Turns (1956) after she was able to audition. She was in the show's cast from 1982 until 1984. Meg also played a role in the show One of the Boys (1982) which, however, was later cancelled. In 1984, Meg moved to Hollywood and was offered a position with the western-themed television series Wildside (1985). Meg was a part-time actress in Top Gun (1986), and then was included in Steven Spielberg's Innerspace (1987), in which she appeared alongside Dennis Quaid. For the remake of D.O.A., she starred in a second time with Quaid. (1988) and married in Saint Valentine's Day 1991. Meg appeared in 1989's When Harry Met Sally... (1989), and the scene in the restaurant became famous. Meg was nominated both for the Golden Globe as well as the BAFTA. In 1990, she co-starred with Tom Hanks in Joe Versus the Volcano (1990) and this time she played three roles as DeDe/Angelica/Patricia. In 1993, Meg starred alongside Tom in Sleepless in Seattle (1993) for which she was again nominated for the Golden Globe. Meg decided to take on a different role than her peers in 1994, by playing the part of Meg as an alcoholic wife/mother in When a Man Loves a Woman (1994). She returned to being "cute" following that film with I.Q. (1994) as well as French Kiss (1995). People Magazine voted Meg as one of the top 50 beautiful women on the planet 1994.
